1.) What does it take to be a Talent Manager/M.D of a record label?
It takes discipline and an entrepreneurial drive, astute business
notions, good leadership skills and a flair for detecting, grooming
and nurturing talents.
2.) When was BLACKSNIPE Records created?
It was created in August, 2009 with my C.EO, Frank Bliss. As an
entity, we’ve been operating for the past 6years actively working on
projects that we feel will rebrand and face lift our dying musical
culture.
3.) How does one go about starting a record label in Nigeria?
Normally, to run a professional record label, it must constitute of
many facets; artists, A&Rs, Managers, publicists, record producers and
most importantly, FINANCE! All these things are very important. If one
can assemble some of these elements that will make a good start. When
you have some or all of the just mentioned elements, then you will
have to register your structure legally so as to operate like a
business entity by the laws
governing Nigeria.
4.) What do you look for when signing an artist?
There are alot of things to be considered when chosing your choice of
Artist. Talent, hard work, discipline and humility. Talent without
discipline is like potential
with no purpose. So, Talent is just not enough. We’d rather work with
an average humble Artist than work with a talented indiscipline act.
We also prefer signing artists who are multi-talented, who can write,
compose and produce their songs if possible because it cuts down
production costs seriously. That is why artists should work hard to
get discovered!
5.) What Plans do you have for your Artists?
By the Grace of God, we already have signed agreement and established
partnership with various International music companies that will
enable us push our music world-wide. So we know exactly how promotion
and management operate in the music business. You can find all these
details on our official website via www.blacksniperecords.org
6.) What's your Advice to up & coming Artist?
If you meet talent, protect it, guard it, Feed it, just do anything
possible to make it grow and soon
there will be harvest.
